Version 4.6 of the EDIUS Broadcast software includes powerful new functionality based on the JPEG 2000 codec used in the Thomson Grass Valley Infinity™ Digital Media Camcorder (DMC), allowing multi-layer editing of EFP-quality high definition content, even on a laptop computer.The workflow for Sony's XDCAM has also been enhanced to support their new EX range of camcorders. EDIUS Broadcast is the first NLE to take advantage of Sony's Simple Access Mode (SAM), whereby low-resolution video can be used in conjunction with high-resolution audio.
EDIUS Broadcast pioneered tapeless workflows with its handling of Panasonic's P2 format, and this latest revision is a logical progression for an NLE that has built its reputation on fast, effective, multi-format editing in SD, HD, DV25, and MPEG, with the freedom to mix video standards and formats on a single timeline, all in real-time.
"Craft editing with a comprehensive toolset using material shot with today's tapeless acquisition formats is naturally a major requirement in production," said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President of Thomson's Broadcast Professional Solutions business unit. "The release of EDIUS Broadcast v4.6 provides an open, standards-based platform with seamless workflows whatever the acquisition format. And it provides unrivalled flexibility and editing power when using the high quality JPEG 2000 codec implemented in our Infinity Digital Media Camcorder."
The Infinity DMC offers a variety of codecs to suit a user's workflow. For HD capture, it uses JPEG 2000, a wavelet compression standard that provides very high quality imaging. An inherent benefit of JPEG 2000 coding algorithms is that it provides multiple quality layers — only one high resolution master file is needed to derive lower resolution versions. EDIUS Broadcast v4.6 takes advantage of JPEG 2000's bit layering which provides not only the full 100 Mb/s encoded stream, but can provide an intermediate level (30 Mb/s) or a high-quality browse level (6 Mb/s) so that today's laptops users can edit JPEG 2000 in the field. If a laptop's CPU is not powerful enough to decode the full resolution stream, EDIUS automatically switches to lower resolutions for viewing and display of effects in real-time during editing. The full quality version is, of course, retained for the final output.
The Infinity DMC records onto IT industry-standard recording media including REV PRO removable disks and professional grade CompactFlash solid state memory cards. EDIUS Broadcast v4.6 editing software allows REV PRO disks and CompactFlash cards to be used as both media sources and destinations, as well as offering seamless ingest from both into the edit workstation (REV PRO is mounted as a hard drive and is capable of real-time data transfer — ingest is optional). This allows the editor to quickly browse through all the content available and start work immediately.
The new release also delivers integration — via MXF — with the Thomson Grass Valley K2™ Media Server platform to provide a seamless workflow across networked editing and production workstations. EDIUS can also output a GXF wrapped-streams format (SMPTE standard 360M) making its transfer and sharing transparent with Profile XP, K2, and other GXF compliant systems.

MAGIX Samplitude 11.0Samplitude is purely native PC software and therefore independent of proprietary audio hardware. Track colors

Hybrid Audio Engine
The Hybrid Audio Engine includes a combination of a Low Latency and High Latency Engine. The Low Latency Engine reduces response times when calculating track effects and enables Live Monitoring at lower latencies. The integrated High Latency Engine, on the other hand, brings about more effective system utilization, which allows for the integration of sophisticated object effects, object auxiliaries surround functions. The Hybrid Audio Engine is based on the ASIO driver system and, thanks to its low input/output delay at the same performance levels, optimizes the system especially when working with software instruments and other plug-ins. The combination of the two operating styles (with latency compensation of course) is also possible. This makes the software perfectly suitable for current requirements of the production process.
Object-oriented editing
As well as the classic track-related editing options, Samplitude also provides object-level editing. This provides new opportunities for mixing and sound design. The audio material may be split into any number of objects and moved on the track freely. Every object can be edited with fades and effects, e.g. equalizer, timestretching, pitchshifting, or VST plug-ins. Even aux sends are possible at object level. This means that the aux send is only active for this object, making complicated automation unnecessary. The object editor offers real-time access to an object's settings. All settings at the object level are calculated in real-time during playback; no new files are written to the hard drive. This saves space on the hard drive and allows settings to be changed again at any time. For example, you may discover that individual words from a vocal track require a pitch adjustment, so you could split each word, even every syllable into a single object. Each of these individual ! objects may be corrected with the real-time pitch correction function or edited in terms of volume and panorama or with fades and crossfades. Every object even features a complete range of effects and inserts for DirectX and VST plug-ins.

essentialFX provides a complete suite of new, alternative basic effects for dynamics, modulation, and other frequently used sound processes on a single screen. A lot of attention has been paid to modern design, effective display of the individual parameters, and as such to the simplicity of overall operation. sMax11
sMax11 is a new limiter/maximizer that provides must-have services for mastering tasks. Basically, the function is a hard/brick wall limiter with input amplification. Specification of input amplification allows the loudness of the audio signal to be increased easily. At the same time, the sMax11 ensures that the signal does not exceed the flexibly set output level. The control at the basis of the modification may also be configured by setting the release time and a specific mode like Hard Clipper, Aggressive, or Balanced.
EQ116
The EQ116 in Samplitude 11 provides a 6-band equalizer that works with either oversampling or phase-linear algorithms. Filters on up to six freely selectable frequency bands may be activated to adjust the sound of the sample or of an object. This also enables broadband elevations in high and bass values as well as narrowband corrections to the frequency response to be carried out. Three different filter setups may also be selected to make settings directly during monitoring, without loading or saving complete presets.

VariCAD 2009 is a 3D/2D CAD solution for mechanical engineering. 3D Tools - Assemblies, Groups, Parts etc:· VariCAD also provides tools for assembly support. If the link between a part and assembly is defined, any changes made to the part file are reflected in the assembly file and vice-versa. Linked copies can also be defined. In this case, editing of one object causes all its linked copies to be updated. Solid groups can be defined as well, making selection and visibility changes simple for multiple objects.
Crash Tests (Interferences):· One excellent feature of 3D modeling is component interference checking. VariCAD can check 3D assemblies for possible collisions (overlapping volume) between components.
Calculations:· VariCAD can calculate 2D section area, surface area, volume, mass, center of gravity, and moment of gyration. A library of mechanical calculations is also included, for standard parts used every day by mechanical designers. These mechanical parts include tension and compression springs, pre-stressed bolted connections, pins and parallel keys, grooved shafts, bearings, beams under combined stress (bending and torsion), spur and bevel gearing geometry, and belt drives.
Surface Development (Sheet Metal Unbending):· VariCAD can also create developed (flattened) surfaces of 3D solids. The XY coordinates of the developed surfaces can be saved to a text file for further processing. You can input bending coefficients in order to customize your calculations.
Mechanical Part and Symbol Libraries:· VariCAD contains libraries of standard mechanical parts (ANSI, DIN), such as bolts, nuts, pins, plugs, cotters, gaskets, bearings, rolled and drawn shapes, and hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic symbols. You can add items to these libraries or modify existing parts - all 2D and most 3D dimensions can be edited.· Non-graphical information can also be assigned to parts, such as type of material or supplier. This information is incorporated into an assembly and can be used for material requisitions, bills of materials (BOM), title blocks, or other purposes.
3D - 2D Export:· 3D models are easily converted into 2D drawings to produce conventional drafting documentation. You can create 2D views of one or more selected solids by defining the views in 3D. In addition, you can also export specified sections. VariCAD supports updates of a 2D drawing after changes in 3D.
2D Drawing and Editing:· Drawing functions are geared toward easy use in engineering. Some handy features of 2D drawing include: an intelligent cursor that automatically detects objects and snap points, numerous snap modes, flexible item selectability, auxiliary construction lines, ortho mode, rectangular grid, drawing layers (up to 250), block creation, hatching with automatic border detection, advanced dimensioning, surface texture symbols, welding symbols, tolerance symbols, and more. Dimensions can be in millimeters or inches.
BOM and Title Blocks:· VariCAD provides tools for maintaining drawing databases, which represent the data structure of the product. Databases can be created manually (using data extraction from the assembly), or by loading a file. There are constraints between data in part and assembly drawing title blocks and the assembly database. You can build a bill of material (BOM) from the database, then easily modify the database using commands like mass attribute changes, sorting of information, etc.· The data structure of the product (BOM) can be exported into other systems or into a spreadsheet. Automatic BOM and title block creation is another one of VariCAD's useful tools. A mask is used for customization; if you create masks for BOM and title blocks, you can use them until a change is necessary. The CAD system provides default masks which can be adjusted to suit your needs.
Compatibility:· VariCAD can interchange files with other CAD systems.
